SANDY — Shelly and John Valdez, youth ministers at Blessed Sacrament Parish, started the Gift of the Drummer Program in 1999. This year their group of 55 youth from 14 different schools, helped 12 families from throughout the valley including six seniors from the Sarah Daft Home in Salt Lake City, have a Christmas they would not have been able to afford.

MIDVALE — The fire that destroyed the sanctuary of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church in Midvale Jan. 4, likely smoldered for hours, officials of the Midvale Fire Department said. When Juan Carlos Martinez opened the church’s main doors just before the scheduled 8 a.m. daily Mass, smoke poured from the building, and the oxygen-starved fire roared up, consuming the ambo, the creche set, and the altar, and seriously damaging the sanctuary candle holders.

Real es la directora de promotoras de los Ministerios de la Santa Cruz. Real recibió el pasado 25 de octubre el premio Peace on Earth Courage Award otorgado por el grupo Salt Lake Domestic Violence Coalition.
