Dept. of Human Services continues outreach to Latinos

SALT LAKE CITY — Manuel Romero, director of community relations for the State Dept. of Human Services (DHS), and Catherine Taylor, of the agency’s office of recovery services, are committed to the department’s outreach to the Hispanic and Latino populations. Under DHS Program Manager Lisa Michelle Church, Romero is assisting Taylor in reaching out to mothers and fathers of babies and young children.Taylor is especially concerned that members of those communities know their rights as well as their responsibilities as they relate to the paternity of children.

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Foster Care Foundation, in a forum Jan. 15 at Juan Diego Catholic High School, reported that at any given time, there are about 2,600 children in foster care in the state. Nearly half of these children are from the Salt Lake Valley area, and growing numbers of these children are of Hispanic/Latino descent.

SALT LAKE CITY – En un foro organizado el 15 de enero en la escuela preparatoria Juan Diego Catholic High School, la fundación Utah Foster Care Foundation (en Español: Fundación Tutelar de Utah) reportó que en un momento dado hay alrededor de 2,600 niños bajo cuidado tutelar en el estado. Aproximadamente la mitad de éstos se encuentran en el área del Valle de Salt Lake, y un número creciente de estos niños son de ascendencia Hispana/Latina.

SALT LAKE CITY — Rick Bartman is settling in well in his new position as principal at Judge Memorial Catholic High School in Salt Lake City. At 49, most of his career in education has been spent in Florida, where he taught in a high school, instructed special education students, and served as dean of students in a public high school.
