SALT LAKE CITY — On Thursday, March 13, at 7:00 p.m., Bishop John C. Wester will celebrate the Mass of Chrism at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, where he will bless the Oil of Catechumens, the Oil of the Sick, and the Oil of Chrism. On Nov. 3, 1947, Bishop Duane G. Hunt, bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City from 1937 to 1960, wrote to the Catholic Church Extension Society explaining that all the property in and around Bingham was owned by the Utah Copper Company, according to "The Salt of the Earth," by Bernice Mooney. "The Copper Company was taking over more and more of the property for mining purposes. This forced the people to move out into the valley, the first stop being the new town of Copperton.

SALT LAKE CITY — The Judge Memorial Bulldogs became the State 3A Basketball Champions with a 77-65 win over the Wasatch Wasps at the E Center Feb. 22. This was their second state title in three years.

OGDEN — Derek Tate, St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School teacher, has been certified a hero. Students have long considered him heroic as a physical education teacher and as athletic director and more recently as an awesome math teacher. But on February 12, The American Red Cross of Northern Utah presented Tate as one of seven bona fide heroes at their luncheon The American Red Cross of Northern Utah Salutes our Heroes.
