Friends invited to Holy Cross Sisters' open house for founder

SALT LAKE CITY — Friends of the Congregation of the Holy Cross are invited to an open house January 20, 2008, from 9-11:00 am in the Bishop Federal Room of the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 27 C Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. All people who have attended Holy Cross schools, worked with the Holy Cross hospitals, or have any history or ties with Holy Cross are invited to attend.

The schedule for the event is as follows: 9:00-10:00 – Welcome and Introductions, continental breakfast, and informal sharing of Holy Cross memories and connections; 10:00 – Presentation of the Holy Cross Associates Program; 11:00 – Mass in celebration of Father Basil Moreau, founder of Holy Cross Congregation, Cathedral of the Madeleine, Bishop John Wester presiding.

The open house will feature photos, a chance to share stories, and the Salt Lake City launching of the Sisters of the Holy Cross Associates Program, which offers prayer and volunteer opportunities both here and abroad.

Holy Cross Sisters from Utah and Idaho will be in attendance. Sister Mary Margaret Weber, CSC and Sister Mary Ellen Johnson CSC, associates program coordinators, will present the Holy Cross Associates program at 10:15 am.

We hope this day will give all friends of Holy Cross an opportunity to reconnect with their Holy Cross heritage, to receive an update on the current activities of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in the U.S. and abroad, and find ways to participate in ministry and prayer with the Sisters throughout the world.

Sister Mary Margaret Weber is director of "A Place for Women To Gather" in Raleigh, N.C. This center offers short workshops, retreat days, small group programming, and spiritual direction, both on and off site. "A Place for Women to Gather" offers women the opportunity to foster their spiritual & human growth in the midst of the every day world. Sister Mary Ellen Johnson is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Marriage/Family Therapist who provides individuals, families, and couples with mental health counseling in a parish setting. Sister Mary Ellen works for Catholic Community Services of Seattle Wash.

Bishop John Wester will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral at 11:00 am in honor of the founder of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Father Basil Moreau, who was beatified this past September.
