SALT LAKE CITY — When the Filipino Catholics of Utah gather December 2 for their first Mass with Bishop John C. Wester of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, they will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of their founding.

>>>WEST VALLEY CITY — Father Raynato "Rene" Rodillas is taking up a fourth language, now that he’s been assigned to Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in West Valley City. In addition to his native Tagalog, spoken in the Philippines, Fr. Rene, a member of the international Congregation of the Divine Word Priests and Brothers, speaks German and English, and is now studying Spanish.

>>>SALT LAKE CITY — Bishop John C. Wester of the Diocese of Salt Lake City has been named chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Migration. He succeeds Bishop Gerald R. Barnes of San Bernardino, Calif. The position will not be Bishop Wester’s first experience with the committee. He had served previously as a committee member, and then as a consultant.

>>>LAYTON — Bishop John C. Wester of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, made a pastoral visit to the Catholic community of Christ, Prince of Peace at Hill Air Force Base in Layton. Father David V. McGuire, chaplain for Hill Air Force Base, welcomed Bishop Wester to the base and gave him a tour of some of the bases facilities and sights.
