Importance of liturgical language

Friday, Apr. 09, 2010
Since the Second Vatican Council, the Church has had two different Missals. As we prepare to receive the third edition of the Roman Missal we need to discuss why a good translation is so vital for our liturgical prayer.
What is wrong with the current translations? >>>

Mensaje de Pascua del Rev. Obispo Wester

Friday, Apr. 09, 2010

Centennial Celebration of the Boy Scouts of America

Friday, Apr. 09, 2010

I was honored to attend a marvelous dinner celebration of the Boy Scouts’ Centenary at the Salt Palace last Thursday night. There were more than 2,500 persons in attendance, including the Lieutenant Governor and the national chief of scouts. The meal was quite tasty and the entertainment by Eclipse was really enjoyable. Scouting is very big here in Utah. In fact, relatively speaking, there are more young men participating in the Boy Scouts here in Utah than in any other state.

Carmelite Monastery

Friday, Apr. 09, 2010

Last week I had an opportunity to visit our wonderful Carmelite Sisters at their monastery on Holladay Boulevard in eastern Salt Lake City. We are certainly blessed to have their presence in our diocese. Their apostolate of prayer is essential for the vitality of the diocese. As Lord Tennyson said, more things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of. (Did he end his sentence in a preposition?!) That is why St. Theresa of the Child Jesus is called a patroness of the missions, even though she never left her Carmel. She prayed unceasingly for the missions that the people there would be disposed to listen to the missionaries. This “pre-disposing” grace is very important in furthering the Gospel and the Church credits St. Theresa for her apostolate of prayer, which is every bit as real and effective as the missionaries who actually worked in the mission fields.
