Immigration is a moral issue, not merely a political one

Whenever the Catholic Church takes a public stand on a seemingly political issue, such as immigration, some individuals may ask, "Why is a church involved in a political debate?" Thomas Jefferson’s concept of separation of church and state does not mean that churches have no place in state affairs.
