SALT LAKE CITY — Hundreds of youth from across the Salt Lake valley will participate in an Interfaith Service Project on Thursday, June 11, from 3p.m. to 8pm. Youth representing the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City, the Greek Orthodox, Jewish, Islamic, Hindu, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and other religions will launch the day’s events with a brief interfaith devotional at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 East South Temple, Salt Lake City.

Msgr. Joseph M. Mayo, rector of the Cathedral of the Madeleine, will open the youth-led service, which will include prayers and songs representing the various faith groups.

Since all faiths share a love of the earth and place high value on prudent stewardship of the natural world, participants will then be transported by bus to the Jordan River Parkway for environmental projects.

After cleanup and beautification of the pathway’s targeted sections, participants will conclude at the International Peace Gardens, 900 West 1000 South, with a light dinner and celebration. Parents not participating in the project must pick up their children from the Peace Gardens between 8 p.m. and 8:15pm. All families, youth groups, and junior/senior high students are welcome and encouraged to participate.

This event stands to have lasting impact on not only the physical sites, but also all participants. This project demonstrates the power of unity and the positive impact today’s youth can have on tomorrow.
