SANDY – "High" tea was the flavor of the day for eighth-graders at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School on Dec. 9. Just as in days of yore when the British working class enjoyed afternoon tea, eighth-graders hosted an affair of their own, complete with savory treats and specialty drinks.

The tea party was the idea of Mrs. Kristi Oritt, middle school language arts teacher. The eighth-graders were studying the Revolutionary War in social studies and in literature. The event is a great example of how teachers are able to weave courses together to emphasize a particular subject matter.

The tea party was the culminating experience of this cross-curriculum unit. Many students took time to research recipes from the time period and the feast included a huge serving of "Aunt Pitty Pat’s Scones" and authentic British tea biscuits. The students gained a lot from the experience of reading the book, studying the time period, and having a chance to celebrate a traditional tea. "High" tea at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School has become a tradition with the eighth-grade class.
