DRAPER — Brian Suaste spends a great deal of time working on his art. He was awarded a first place ribbon at the Fra Angelico Art Festival May 4, at the Skaggs Catholic Center in Draper.

The Fra Angelico Art Festival is an annual event that displays the art of students at Juan Diego Catholic High School, Saint John the Baptist Middle and Elementary Schools. Roughly 2,000 students attend school the three schools.

The award was a nice birthday present to Suaste, as he just turned 13 years old. As a seventh grade student, Sauste is confident in his art and was not too surprised by the award.

He plans to continue perfecting his pencil art as a serious hobby. His life goal, since he was 5 years old has been to become a heart surgeon. He is not sure where he will go to college, or how he will pay for it, but is confident that it will happen for him.

Sauste lives with his mom and little brother Erik, and hopes to be able to provide for them after his goal is met.

Suaste sketched a drawing of his pet dog and a self-portrait that won him first place in the seventh grade category of the Fra Angelico Art Festival.
