St. Olaf students donate to food pantry, soup kitchen

BOUNTIFUL — As November began, students at Saint Olaf School were already imagining the wonderful bounty of food that would grace their Thanksgiving tables at the end of the month.
However, knowing that there are many families and children in the area who might not be able to enjoy a good meal on Thanksgiving Day, or on many other days for that matter, they decided to work together to help feed people in the community who don’t have the means to put food on their tables, especially during the holiday season.
The St. Olaf students decided to collect food for those in need every day of the month until Thanksgiving.
Each school day in November, students brought canned goods for the food drive, and the quantity of donations increased daily. Not only did the students collect food, they also donated money by participating in “Casual for Cause,” a dress-down day where they donated money to allow them to wear non-uniform clothing to school for one day. This fun day for the students resulted in $331.45, which was donated to the Saint Vincent de Paul soup kitchen.
In addition, the students collected 1,117 pounds of food during the month, which was given to the Bountiful Food Pantry.
“Our students follow Christ’s mandate to feed the hungry,” said Saint Olaf Principal Casey Pond. “We feel blessed to have the opportunity to do what we can to help our less fortunate brothers and sisters.”
