October 24, 1945 ~ February 14, 2024

Our beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend Richard Medina passed away on February 14, 2024, surrounded by his family, at the age of 78 in Salt Lake City. He was born on October 24, 1945, to Alex and Ruby Medina in Durango, Colorado. He married Laura Sanchez on June 26, 1965, in Salt Lake City. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1964, where he became Sgt. Medina. He served for two years.

He loved camping, fishing, hunting and especially watching his sons and grandsons play sports. He didn’t miss a game. Richard excelled at anything he put his mind to, including fixing cars and remodeling homes. Later in life he educated himself to become tech savvy with computers, building and fixing the family’s home computers.

Dad had two special women in his life whom he loved and cared for: his daughter Natalie Medina and granddaughter Goonie Medina. In return, Nat and Goonie took such amazing care of Grandpa when he became ill for many years until our sweet Natalie passed away in 2021. That is when our Goonie Medina stepped in to take care of Grandpa. She put her life on pause and took care of the man who helped raise her. We will always be grateful for her love and dedication to Dad.

He is survived by his sons Rick (Kathy) Medina, Randy (Ronda) Medina; grandchildren Laura (Goonie) Medina, Christopher (Marisa) Medina, Tyra Medina (Vic), Savanna Medina and Ricky Medina; great-grandchildren Aweia Medina, Alex Medina, Gabriel Medina and Santos Medina. Also survived by his siblings Patsy Rodriguez, Delores Castillo, Lupe Reitz.

Preceded in death by his loving wife Laura Medina, daughter Natalie Medina, both parents, sister Edwina Tovar, sister Bernice Martinez and brother Joseph Medina.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on February 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Frances Xavier Catholic Church, 4501 West 5215 South, Kearns. Interment to follow the funeral at Camp Williams Cemetery, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale.

A special thank you to Meadow Peaks Rehabilitation Center for taking such excellent care of our dad.
