Patron Saint Celebration

Bishop Oscar A. Solis presided at a Mass celebrating Saint Kateri Tekakwitha at her namesake mission in Fort Duchesne on July 10, in advance of her July 17 feast day. Concelebrating the Mass was Father Edward Leondhas, administrator of the mission as well as St. James the Greater and St. Helen parishes. Deacon George Reade proclaimed the Gospel.  As part of the celebration, participants, some dressed in traditional clothing, processed from the mission to the Fort Duchesne Community Center, carrying an image of the saint and the banner with the mission’s name that was made for last year’s diocesan Eucharistic Revival celebration. Several members of the diocesan staff attended and, after the Mass, joined in a traditional round dance. Also as part of the celebration, three members of the  Southern Ute Royalty spoke briefly and danced.
