Parish mission in Park City will make you laugh, cry and sing

PARK CITY — The Saint Mary of the Assumption Council of Catholic Women in Park City is sponsoring a three-night parish mission May 17-19. The council is inviting parishioners from throughout the Diocese of Salt Lake City to attend.

Father James Sichko will lead the mission; he is a motivational speaker, author of the book Among Friends: Stories from the Journey, and a priest in the Diocese of Lexington, Ky. He has been the pastor for 11 years at Saint Mark Parish in Richmond, Ky., and is known for his storytelling and his ability to remind people that they can find messages from God in all of their everyday experiences, said Christine St. Andre, St. Mary of the Assumption Parish mission coordinator. 

“Fr. Sichko will make us laugh, cry and definitely make us want to sing,” St. Andre said. “He is interesting and funny.”

Fr. Sichko completed his undergraduate work at the New England Conservatory of Music in vocal performance; he studied theology at Sacred Heart School of Theology. He travels throughout the United States giving missions, retreats and days of reflection.

Fr. Sichko will celebrate all of the weekend Masses at St. Mary of the Assumption May 17-19. 

“If they come the first night of the mission, they will come back,” said Fr. Sichko. “The talk each evening will be 60 minutes, and I refer to the talks as 60 minutes for Jesus; storytelling, praise and laughter.  I will take  everyday experiences that we come into contact with, find Jesus in the midst of those experiences and weave them in and out of the lives of the Gospel. I will teach people about Jesus in a very energetic and faith-filled way using Scripture and song.” 

The mission will be “very family oriented,” Fr. Sichko said. “Kids of all ages are welcome. Jesus died on a cross for us, so we can take 60 minutes out of our day for the man who took hours to die on a cross for us. If people need a ride, I will give them a ride.”
