Procopio Vigil

WEST JORDAN – Procopio Vigil, 92, died Oct. 7, 2010.

Vigil was born Dec. 29, 1917, to Filemon and Antonita Maestas Vigil in Las Trampas, N.M. His childhood was tough, but filled with love from all the relatives he was fortunate to spend time with after he lost his mother at a young age. He married the love of his life, Natividad Leyba, on Dec. 16, 1940, in Penasco, N.M. and they raised seven children.

From 1941-1945, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. When he returned, he worked for and retired from Utah Power and Light Co. He was a quiet man, but he was so full of love for everyone. His favorite pastime was hunting with his sons. They all enjoyed gathering around him to listen to his stories.

He is survived by his children Toni (Leo) Lopez, Clorinda (Solomon) Montoya, Libbie (Albert) ValDez, LeRoy, Robert (Joyce); daughter-in-law Lea Vigil; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church.

Jean Baillie Pilgrim

SALT LAKE CITY — Jean Baillie Pilgrim, 88, died Oct. 8, 2010.

Pilgrim was born Aug. 6, 1922 in Caington, N.D., to Robert Andrew and Elizabeth S. Baillie. She married H. Ira Pilgrim in 1947; they had four daughters. After 18 years, they divorced and she became a cytotechnologist and worked until her retirement in 1985 from Holy Cross Hospital.

She is survived by his daughters Anne Hampton (Terry) Ferrington, Northbend, Wash., Lynn (Steve) Martin, Salt Lake City, Jan Tingey, Woods Cross and Julie Bocian Tay, Fontana, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Mary Adams

SALT LAKE CITY — Mary Adams, 86, died Oct. 11, 2010 at CHRISTUS Saint Joseph Villa. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Salt Lake City.

Adams was born Nov. 22, 1923, in Sunnyside, Utah, to Gus and Filomena Curcione Adams. She was employed by Royal Music Company and Daynes Music Company, and later Johanna’s Nursing Home. She was a volunteer for CHRISTUS Saint Joseph Villa.

She is survived by her sister Ann Adams; sister-in-law Virginia Adams; nephews Greg Adams, Guy (Jaci) Adams, Jr. and Michael (Rose) Adams; and great nephews Michael Adams, Jr., Nicholas Adams and A. J. Adams.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Salt Lake City. Committal was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Bessie Robinson

SALT LAKE CITY — Bessie Robinson, 92, died Oct. 10, 2010.

Robinson was born March 5, 1918, in Ogden to James and Sarah Houghton. She married Harold Robinson in 1938. Together they had two sons, Harold Robinson and the late Darrell Robinson.

She was a creative and talented woman who loved to spend time with her family. When her children were young, she was actively involved in Boy Scouts, serving as a den mother for many years. There was a special place in her heart for less fortunate children, and she used her gifts as a seamstress to refurbish hundreds of dolls for them. Neighbors could always find her tending to her beautiful flower garden. She loved to sew, garden and travel throughout the world. Most of all, she enjoyed her family and spent endless hours passing on her strength, respect for life and quiet compassion.

She is survived by her son Harold (Kay) Robinson; grandchildren Shelly (Shane) Gonzales and Rebecca Robinson; and great-grandchildren Hunter, Logan, Gabby and Avery.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Charles E. Smith

SALT LAKE CITY — Charles E. Smith, 65, died Aug. 31, 2010.

Smith was born Feb. 14, 1945, in Park City. He served in the U.S. Army. He was willing to do anything for his family and friends and was a wonderful grandfather. They will miss him very much.

He is survived by his son Phillip "Eddie" (Kim) Smith; grandsons Colton, Skylar and Jaden Smith; sisters, Marian Murnin and Gloria Hanley; and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Graveside servicEs were held at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Sandra Lazarus

SALT LAKE CITY — Sandra Lazarus, 62, died Aug. 26, 2010, after a 10-year battle with breast cancer.

Lazarus was born Dec. 15, 1947. She enjoyed music, singing, dancing, biking, working out, tennis and all manner of spectator sports. She traveled extensively and was excited for new knowledge, experiences and people. She was a strong and independent woman with a wonderful sense of humor and the best friend one could have.

A funeral service was held at Neil O’Donnell & Sons Mortuary. Interment was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
