Michael Joseph Jansen

SALT LAKE CITY — Michael Joseph Jansen, 46, died Sept. 20, 2010 from heart failure.

Jansen was born Oct. 13, 1963, in Salt Lake City to Karl and Patricia Kirkwood Jansen. He was the only child and loved it. He worked for the Salt Lake City Cemetery since he was 16 years old. He worked for Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery for the last 15 years with his two good friends, Hans and Phil. His smile and laughter brought joy to all who met him.

He loved all his grandchildren dearly. He also loved spending time with his girlfriend, her son and their cat Panther. Other than family he loved choppers, fishing, tigers and working.

He is survived by his mother Pat; his son Michael Jansen; daughter in-law Rachna Masih; son Christopher Jansen; daughter in-law Whitney; grandchildren Christopher Jr., Anastasia, Taylor and Kayden; uncles, aunts and cousins; his significant other Ann Shaffer, her son Sam and all who loved him.

A memorial service was held at Neil O’Donnell & Sons Mortuary.

Francisco Jimenez Mendez

SALT LAKE CITY — Francisco Jimenez Mendez, 87, died Sept. 16, 2010.

Mendez was born Nov. 15, 1922, in Ixian de Juarez, Oaxaca, Mexico. He married Rose Mary Garcia, who preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 2000. He devoted his life to raising his children and grandchildren. He had a great love for music and had a collection of records to fill a room. He spent his retirement years traveling between Utah and Mexico. He had a passion for history and stayed current on politics around the globe.

He is survived by his children Rose Mary Drake, Zulma Jimenez, Mary (Herman) Clarke, Margo (Korla) Woods, and Hector (Melissa) Garcia; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one-great-great-grandchild.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Ann Catholic Church. Interment was in Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Tony Perfili

TOOELE — Tony Perfili, 91, died Sept. 16, 2010.

Perfili was born Feb. 27, 1919, in Tooele to Guistini Perfili and Pasqualina Frattarelli Perfili. He was the second of 10 children raised in a loving Italian family. He graduated from Tooele High School in 1939, where he played football. Perfili served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Aug. 4, 1941 to Oct. 8, 1945, as a communications clerk.

He worked at the Tooele Smeltering Refining International Center and retired from Kennecott Cooper Corp. as security supervisor in 1982, at the age of 62. He enjoyed his family and friends, spaghetti dinners and he loved his five daughters and their families.

He is survived by his daughters Judy (Brent) Noyce, Shirley (David) Prows, Janice (Gene) Wright, Julie Haws, and Janalee Prather; brothers Albert and Fred (Rose) Perfili; brother-in-law Don Dill; 20 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Marguerite Catholic Church.Interment was in Tooele City Cemetery.

Carolyn Mary Snow

SALT LAKE CITY — Carolyn Mary Snow, 66, died Sept. 14, 2010.

Snow was born to Alma Mauss and Therza Pope on Jan. 2, 1944. She married James C. Snow on Nov. 6, 1965, and they had three sons. She was a wonderful soul who loved animals, traveling and cooking for everyone. Everyone who met her instantly fell in love with her because she had a heart of gold. She would do anything for anyone just out of the kindness of her heart.

She is survived by her husband James C. Snow; children J. Todd (Tracy) Snow, Paul D. (Stephani) Snow, Ryan P. (Shauna) Snow; grandchildren Jennifer and baby Ella; siblings Kathy, Dorothy and Joanne.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Jane Korpela

SALT LAKE CITY — Jane Korpela, 90, died Sept. 16, 2010.

Korpela was born Oct. 25, 1919 to Pete and Mary Renzo in Salt Lake City. She loved and cared for all she met. She loved to cook and have large family meals. Korpela is the originator of Utah’s Adult Foster Care program.

She married Elmer Morpela and they had seven children.

She is survived by her children Gloria (Howard) VanWorkem, Jay (Carol) Korpela, Pete (Velma) Korpela; grandchildren Julie VanWorken, Craig (Jennifer) VanWorkem, Jolene (Danny) Bruhel, Jody (Garry) Bruhel, Tris (Tim) MacCullum, Mick Korpela, Larry Morpela, Troy Dyer, Kris Dyer, Travis (Autumn) Korpela and Justin (Brittany) Korpela; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Committal was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Joseph William Puskedra

OGDEN — Joseph (Joey) William Puskedra, 22, died, Sept. 12, 2010.

Puskedra was born in Ogden, Dec. 8, 1987. He graduated from Saint Joseph Catholic High School and was a senior at Colorado State University-Pueblo majoring in mass communications on a Western University Exchange Leadership Scholarship. He was a very charismatic individual who loved people.

He worked many student jobs, his most recent being as a university ambassador for the International Student Program Office and a feature writer for the university newspaper. He was a talented artist who loved to perform. Most recently, he was the lead vocalist and drummer in the CSU-Pueblo student band Soothing Dissidence and before that the high school band Split to Differ. Puskedra also won his high school’s talent contest, first with his band, and the next year as a soloist.

In college, he was on the University Art Committee, worked with different forms of art and won many awards for his collages. He loved film. While studying abroad in Thailand at the Mahidol University near Bangkok, he produced and directed a sitcom pilot for Thailand television. He was an outstanding athlete excelling in high school in soccer, basketball, and track. He was on the Advantage competition traveling soccer team, and an All-State high school player.

He is survived by his daughter, Sasha Marie Sober, Olney Springs, Co.; his parents, Dave and Teresa, Ogden, Ut.; brothers, Luke and Rob; grandmother, Eileen Puskedra, Munster, Ind.; grandfather, Merle Joseph Schrodt, Decatur, Ill.; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint James the Just Catholic Church. Interment was in Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch. Donations in memory of Joey Puskedra can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Elementary school or St. Joseph Catholic High School.
