Sister Virgene Marx

Benedictine Sister Virgene (Cecelia) Marx, 89, died Nov. 1, 2010, at Saint Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud, Minn.

Sr. Virgene was born Sept. 27, 1921, to George and Elizabeth Reuw Marx near St. Michael, Minn. Sr. Virgene made her first monastic profession on July 11, 1948, and her perpetual profession on July 11, 1951. She was a founding member of Mount Benedict Monastery in Ogden, Utah. She celebrated her Golden Jubilee in 1998, and her 60th anniversary in 2008.

During her entire religious life Sr. Virgene served in various aspects of health care. Graduating from St. Cloud Hospital School of Nursing in 1951, she worked as a staff nurse and then as a nurse anesthetist. She later worked as director of the School of Anesthesia and co-led the Department of Anesthesia of the St. Cloud Hospital. In 1967, Sr. Virgene went to St. Benedict’s Hospital in Ogden, where she served as operating room supervisor and then supervisor of obstetrics. Completing a program of clinical pastoral education in 1975, she served in pastoral care at St. Benedict’s Hospital.

Upon retirement from active hospital work in 1996, she continued to serve in many health care activities. Among these were: director of the monastery’s oblate program, chaplain for Vista Hospice, 5th step for ACT patients, and the hot line for Birthright of Ogden. She was also engaged in an active telephone ministry, which endeared her to many.

Sr. Virgene enjoyed listening to music, playing cards and the beauty of the Utah mountains. She loved visiting with family, friends and former patients. In 2009, she moved to St. Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud, Minn.

She is survived by the sisters of her Benedictine community and many nieces and nephews; three brothers Father Michael, OSB, Father Paul, OSB, Rienhart, 10 sisters Annie, Theresa, Rose, Lydia , Monica, Clara, Ida, Marie, Dolores, Sister Dorothy Ann, OSB.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Nov. 5, 2010, at Sacred Heart Chapel, Saint Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, Minn. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Please direct memorial gifts to the Vocation fund at Saint Benedict’s Monastery.

Janis Patricia Maestas

Salt Lake City — Janis Patricia Maestas, 65, died Oct. 25, 2010.

Maestas was born Feb. 11, 1945, to Francisco Maestas and Angelica Benavides. She married Leo Archuleta. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Westminster College, which she applied in the Upward Bound program at the University of Utah.

She loved to travel and explore, enjoyed adventures with her family, but her greatest love was her grandchildren.

Maestas is survived by her children Konijo Dumas, Christian (C.J.) Maestas; two brothers Richard Maestas and Ron Maestas; sister Mae Lopez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was inurned at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Eileen L. Lively

AMERICAN FORK — Eileen L. Lively, 76, died Oct. 21, 2010. She was a member of Saint Peter Parish.

Lively was born March 25, 1934, in Taos, N.M., to Pedro A. Trujillo and Eustacia Martinez. She married Charlie M. Lively, Jr., in Tooele. She enjoyed all types of crafts and was an expert seamstress. She found great happiness in making beautiful quilts for her family and friends. Lively was a loving, generous and proud supporter of her children and grandchildren, and was happiest when she was with her family.

She worked as an accounting specialist for the Bureau of Reclamation and was a faithful and supportive member of the Catholic Church.

Lively is survived by her children Robert C. (Michele) Lively, Michael Lively, Ronald Lively; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters Loyola (William) Ezell and Martha Trujillo; and brother Clarence (Micky) Trujillo.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Peter Catholic Church. Interment was in Utah Veterans Memorial Park.

Michelle Lea Musich

DRAPER — Michelle Lea Musich, 36, died Oct. 23, 2010.

Musich was born March 2, 1974, in Omaha, Neb., to Erma and Eldred Musich. Her life revolved around her birds, dogs and cats, which all brought her great consolation. She was a sweet, kind-hearted person who loved to be around her family and friends.

She is survived by her parents; sister Stacy; grandmothers Marie Daugherty and Helen Musich; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church.
