DENVER — Seven representatives from the Diocese of Salt Lake City recently traveled to Denver for the 2009 Southwest Liturgical Conference Study (SWLC) Week January 14-17.

They enjoyed an opportunity to renew their spirits, enrich their minds, and refresh their commitment to the beauty and dignity of shared Catholic worship.

On banquet night, the Utah contingent discovered that Maxine Kaiser was slated to receive the SWLC Faithful Servant Award. Board member Rev. Stephen Bird, Director of Liturgy for the Diocese of Oklahoma City spoke about Maxine’s remarkable commitment and service to liturgical formation and practice:

"Maxine Kaiser came to Utah to teach high school, thinking she would be there for a year, or, maybe two. But, some 32 years later, she still calls Utah home.

Maxine has worked under four bishops… [and] traveled the entire state, meeting people and giving workshops.

She recently retired from the Office of Liturgy after 12 years. During that time she has been a very active member of our SWLC Board of Directors and a dear friend to many of us on the Board.

Her passion has been helping adults and young people develop a deeper appreciation of the liturgy, helping families to pray at home, and helping people to live their Catholic faith.

In listening to some of the people of the Salt Lake Diocese, they describe Maxine as a person who has dedicated her life to liturgical formation, a person of prayer, a person of kindness and compassion, a true witness of Christ’s presence, and a person who lives the Word."
