Mary M. Murphy

SALT LAKE CITY — Mary M. Murphy, 75, died Nov. 13.

Murphy was born May 20, 1932, in Fayetteville, Ark., to J. Baxter and Marjorie Williams Miles. She was raised in El Paso, Texas. She joined Paul James Murphy Nov. 13, 1954, in a union of marriage that lasted 34 years until his death in 1991. In addition to raising six children, she served many years as a volunteer for the public schools and the Catholic Church. She treasured her memories of the Scanlan Club. Murphy was eventually diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis that stole the quality of her later years, but never dampened her smile.

She is survived by her children, John (Judy) Murphy, Easton, Md., Catherine Sherwood, Orem, Ann (Jerry) Straley, and Mark (Katie) Murphy, Salt Lake City, Patricia (Patrick) Cone of Oakley, Utah, and Stephen (Stephanie) Murphy, Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Stephanie, Tiffany, Chandler, Spencer, Ian, Annie, Aidan, Wesley, and Rhea; brother, Paul (Sharon) Miles, Wichita, Kan.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at CHRISTUS St. Joseph Villa. Committal was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
