DRAPER — Dominican Father Dominic Briese, chaplain and teacher at Judge Memorial Catholic High School, will address the English-speaking participants at the diocese Advent Day of Prayer and Reflection at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church Dec. 7.
The retreat is hosted by the Diocese of Salt Lake City Offices of Liturgy and Hispanic Ministry and will be offered in both English and Spanish.
Father José Barrera-Hernandez, parochial vicar of the Cathedral of the Madeleine, will lead the retreat in Spanish.
Fr. Dominic will divide his presentation into three topics: Remove the Obstacles, Restore Through Jesus Christ, and Rejoice in Christ.
"Advent is a time to slow down, especially in our prayer life," Fr. Dominic said. "We have to remove obstacles that are excessive, like television or whatever it is that takes us away from our prayer time."
For restoring ourselves in Jesus Christ, Fr. Dominic said he wants to give a Biblical understanding of how Christ is the fulfillment of all restoration mentioned in the major Bible stories; our attempting to do what we can’t do will be explained through the Old Testament.
Rejoicing in Jesus Christ will be rejoicing with the community, said Fr. Dominic. "Advent is a time for slowing down and allowing Christ to restore our relationship with God; the leading up to Christmas and the birth of our King."
