HELPER — Iola Cobain, 87, died Oct. 8, after a short illness. She was a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Parish.

Cobain was born Nov. 12, 1920, in Kenilworth, Utah, to Salvatore and Rosina Marchese Rachiele. She married Robert Thomas Cobain, Jr., of Sparta, Ill., Sept. 14, 1946. He died Nov. 28, 1947. Cobain was raised in Carbon County and a resident in Helper until 2002. She was the Helper City librarian for 55 years. She served as president of the Saint Anthony of Padua Altar Society from 1964-1965. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Stella D’American Italian Lodge. She was proud of her Italian heritage. She moved to CHRISTUS Saint Joseph Villa Senior Apartments in Salt Lake City to be near her family in 2002. She appreciated the wonderful staff who gave her such great love and care.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth "Liz" (Joseph Charles) Veltri; grandchildren, Nicole and Charles Anthony; sisters, Margaret (Fred) Pearce, Aspen, Colo.; Rosie Gillespie, Salt Lake City; brothers, Guido (Dorothy), Price, Raymond (Shirley), Salvatore, Jr., Corvallis, Ore., Henry (Dorothy) Las Cruces, N.M.; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Committal was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
