More than 900 Juan Diego Catholic High School students, teachers and staff lined the street with flags to honor Draper Police Sgt. Derek Johnson as his funeral procession passed Sept. 6. The school has no resource officer, but Johnson and his fellow Draper PD officers often provided support during games, dances and peer court. Johnson was also involved in DrugFree Draper — a coalition of schools, medical businesses, government, etc. to reduce drug and alcohol usage among children in the Draper area.
