Richard Hays O'Donnell

Salt Lake City, Utah - On January 21, 2014, Richard Hays O'Donnell (Dick) passed away from congestive heart failure at age 86.  Born July 24, 1927, in Salt Lake City.  Son of Jack E. O'Donnell and Mary Louise Hays O'Donnell.  Married Evelyn Rino on April 16, 1955.

 

Dick graduated from the University of Utah in 1951, was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and a Crimson Club member.  Long-time member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and the 49ers Club.   Proudly served in the U.S. Army.

 

O’Donnell enjoyed three separate careers, including a Salt Lake City police officer; funeral director and office manager of Evans & Early Mortuary; and retired as vice president of US Bank (formerly West One & Continental Banks).

O’Donnell is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Evelyn; children, Steven and his wife, Cindy; Susan O'Donnell and her husband, David Flaim; and Rick; grandchildren, Stephanie and her husband Spencer Elton; and Emily; and his Granddog, Ace.  Also survived by his brother, Colonel (Ret.) Edward Hays O'Donnell, Manitou Springs, CO; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Hays O'Donnell. 

 

A funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. David Van Massenhove, was celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church.  In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to A Step Forward Hospice, 5284 South Commerce Drive, #C124, Murray, UT 84107 or to St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
