The 4th- and 5th-graders at Saint Vincent de Paul School enjoyed an field trip to the Great Salt Lake. During the field trip they learned about salt water habitat, conservation, rocks, minerals, sediments and water quality. A naturalist led the students to different areas of Antelope Island, where they got to make practical sense of an ecosystem that is right in their own backyard. They learned about geology, bird habitat, watersheds, and how ooids differ from beach sand. Each student had their own binoculars to view birds along the causeway. They also saw brine shrimp, brine flies, bison, antelope, two great horned owls and a few lizards.
