The 2nd- and 6th-grade students at Blessed Sacrament School spearheaded a coat drive for Catholic Community Services. The idea came about when a parent, Nik Cutler, mentioned to 2nd-grade teacher Carolyn Russell that his daughter, Hailey, would like to head up a service project for people who needed warm clothing this winter. When 6th-grade teacher Angela Serzen heard of the project, she wanted her students to join in the effort. Before long it became a joint effort and the "Buddies" made posters, created announcements and began their collection effort. On Dec. 15, Dennis Kelsch, CCS Emergency Assistance program coordinator, picked up the donations at the school. Students were able to help load the truck and Kelsch spoke to the 6th-grade students about CCS, and their role in serving others. The Student Council is simultaneously conducting a donation drive for Candy Cane Corner to assist the families at the Road Home Homeless Shelter. Amy Kenney, 5th-grade teacher, has a quote from How the Grinch Stole Christmas posted to her classroom door that sums up the true meaning of Christmas for the students and families at the school: "Maybe Christmas," he thought ... "doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps ... means a little bit more!"
