by Pat Musich, president Diocesan Council of Catholic Women SALT LAKE CITY — On behalf of the Diocese of Salt Lake City Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) I am honored to write this tribute from our organization. Bishop Niederauer has been a wonderful support to our group for the last 11 years; it is difficult to describe all that he has really meant to us. The women will never forget his sense of humor, wit, intellect, compassion, and kindness. His first introduction to our group was at our convention banquet just a few months after his installation as bishop. The wonderful entertainment by the "Sisters of the Rainbow" will never be forgotten. Of course we weren’t sure if he would ever come back again. He did, and he has joined us for many of our board meetings, the province meetings held in Salt Lake City in 2003 and 2004 by then Province Director, Bobbie Hunt, and all of our Annual DCCW Convention Banquets. It meant so much to the Parish Women of the Year to receive their medals from the Bishop. He has been a great supporter of our sponsorship program that helps women to be able to attend our annual convention. This has increased awareness of DCCW and strengthened our organization throughout the diocese. The National Council of Catholic Women’s (NCCW) Board of Director’s has chosen Bishop Niederauer’ book, "Precious as Silver," as the new selection for their book club. He is to be featured at the NCCW General Assembly in Milwaukee this September. The example to graciously accept what God has in store for our lives as well as the constant spiritual leadership that has been present for us over the years, are examples we will keep in our hearts forever. Bishop Niederauer, you will be missed. While we are sad you are leaving us, you will continually be in our thoughts and prayers. Congratulations on your appointment as Archbishop of San Francisco.
