Susan Renee Monserret passed away peacefully on Aug. 15, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her children, mother and loving husband.
Born in Champagne-Urbana, Ill. on Aug. 2, 1961, Susan lived most of her young life in Downers Grove, Ill., where she met her lifelong best friend, Joanne Pouleson Small.
Later on she married Terence R. Heenan; they moved to Macon, Ga., and raised four beautiful children. Although they later divorced, they remained close friends. She went back to school and graduated from Wesleyan College with a B.A. in English in 1999.
Susan immediately started teaching high school literature and religion, where she expanded the minds and touched the lives of so many students.
Susan moved to Magna in 2009 to marry her loving husband, Mitch Monserret. She taught religion at Judge Memorial Catholic High School for the last six years.
Susan is survived by her husband, Mitch Monserret; children Mary Brenna Barrineau, Terence Heenan, Shannon Arminio, and Catie Mae Johnson; grandchildren Mitchel Monserret, Malaki Monserret, Lilibeth Monserret and Blake Arminio; mother Margaret Irwin; brother Blake Irwin; sister Valerie Kessler; brother-in-law Kendall Kessler; her mother-in-law, Nadine Davis; as well as daughter-in-law, sons-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, Monserret step-children, and brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Susan was preceded in death by her father, Glen Irwin.
Susan and her family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. John Ward, Rosie and the staff of The Huntsman Cancer Institute.
A funeral service was held at Starks Funeral Parlor.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to Judge Memorial Catholic High School or the Cancer Research Institute.
