Emily James, a 2003 Juan Diego Catholic High School graduate, was awarded the prestigious Truman Scholarship. Former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright, president of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, awarded James with the scholarship. James is a junior at Seattle University and is majoring in political science. James is one of 75 university students from the U. S. selected to receive the $30,000 scholarship. Scholars are selected on the basis of leadership potential and the likelihood of making a difference. The scholarship will support James’ plans for graduate studies in Foreign Service at Georgetown University. She hopes to work as an advocate for women’s rights in Latin America, and the United States Agency for International Development.
