Each class at St. Vincent de Paul Parish School designed a colorful banner to illustrate gifts they give to and receive from their beloved school. These banners will be displayed outside the classrooms during Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 30-Feb. 3. The students also will process into church led by the banners before Mass that week. Here is what some of the students had to say:
What Gifts I Give to My Catholic School
1. My personality is my gift. I’m really weird and make people laugh. – Sophie, fifth grade
2. [I give friendship] by helping them up if they fall; if someone is laughing at them, I tell them to stop. – Kyle second grade
3. I’m a good friend by playing with someone who doesn’t have a friend to play with. – Lona, second grade
4. Happiness. When my friends are sad, I make them happier by telling jokes. – Campbell second grade
5. Friendship. I’m a good friend by giving compliments. – Hannah, second grade
6. Joy. I love the church. I like singing. The church is really special. I really like the songs. We stand up and sing, and sometimes we sit down and sing. – Tommy, first grade
What Gifts I Receive from My Catholic School
1. I’m not a Catholic, but I feel really welcomed, and I know a lot about the Catholic faith. – Sophie, fifth grade
2. Being able to go to Mass every Friday. – Sam, fifth grade
3. Love. I get joy from my teachers. There’s a lot of really nice people and teachers here. They always talk nicely and when you need help, they help us. – Ella, first grade
4. They give me love & buddies. I learn about Jesus died on the cross for us so we can live. So we can be more. Because Jesus loves us. – Cosette, first grade
5. 8th grade buddies. They help us so when we’re at Mass we can pay attention. I can pray for my school. – Lilliana, first grade
6. The teachers make me happy when they teach us about math. We celebrate feast days, saints, Jesus. Jesus died on the cross for us to save us. – Lilly, first grade
