Dec. 9, 1940 – June 24, 2017

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away on June 24, 2017 at home surrounded by family, after living a long, blessed life.

Rebecca was born in Cebolla, N.M. on Sept. 26, 1921 to Felipita Martinez. She was raised in Ensenada, N. M.

She married Carlos J. Valdez on Dec. 9, 1940. Together they had six children: Charlie, (Patricia), Becky (Ron) Lindsley, Nora Valdez, Phillip (Lupina) Valdez, Manuel (Helen) Valdez and Elizabeth (Scott) Jordan.

She was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. She retired after many years of service at the Cathedral of the Madeline.

She is survived by five of her six children, 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, and her sister Shirley Martinez.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Felipita Martinez Duran; husband Carlos; son Charlie; granddaughter Theresa (Lala); great-granddaughter Crystal; two sisters and three brothers.

The family would like to give special thanks to Brighton Home Health and Hospice (Maria, Debbie and Meagan) for their loving care and help.

A funeral Mass was celebrated July 3 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
