Dear friends in Christ,
Greetings of Christ’s peace and love!
God blessed our Diocese of Salt Lake City with the Intermountain Catholic. Our diocesan newspaper provides a significant tool in our mission of evangelization by sharing the Good News to all people and by providing information about our Catholic Church and, in particular, relevant local news and exciting pastoral activities of the different parish and mission communities throughout the diocese. The pages of the Intermountain Catholic newspaper make such information available weekly.
This fact underscores the significant value of our diocesan newspaper as a means for readers to share the Word of God, to keep ourselves abreast of the current happenings from around the world at national and regional levels, in our society and in our own local church in Utah. It also helps present important catechesis, offers inspiration and spiritual guidance, and features pastoral activities that bind individuals and various faith communities. In the process, the Intermountain Catholic newspaper connects the faithful to each other, enhances the spirit of our unity and builds our communion as the Body of Christ, His Church.
Last month, we launched the new Diocesan Pastoral Plan, setting the vision and mission of our local church for the next five years as defined by the five pastoral priorities. The plan outlines the goals, objectives and strategies in carrying out our mission of evangelization; it is meant to pave the way to a personal encounter with God in our life with hope that it will usher faith renewal and transformation of our heart. The Intermountain Catholic has been instrumental in sharing the news about the plan’s development and formulation, and made it available in printed copies in English and Spanish and online at the diocesan website, www.dioslc.org. Our diocesan newspaper continues to follow up this process as we prepare ourselves to become missionary disciples of Christ, always ready to preach the Gospel by the witness of our life with new ardor, new methods and newfound joy in Christ.
For this reason, I invite and encourage everyone to support the Intermountain Catholic as a good resource and an effective evangelizing tool of our diocese. Let us make it available to every parishioner, every family member and friends in business establishments, schools and homes. Subscription cards are included in this issue, and the newspaper will be delivered to you all year long at a very reasonable price. By subscribing, you support the mission of our diocese. Please take a moment to fill out a card and return it either in the collection basket of your local parish or by mail, or subscribe online at www.icatholic.org.
Thank you for your generous support and wishes of God’s blessings for you and you loved ones!
Yours truly in Christ,
Most Rev. Oscar A. Solis, D.D.
Bishop of Salt Lake City
