“In his dying [Christ] paid for our sins. For this reason, in our liturgy today we are going to venerate the cross where Christ was nailed and died. It is very important for us because it is the sign of God’s infinite love. We heard in the Scriptures: ‘no greater love a man has than to lay down his life for his friends.’ The cross that we are going venerate is also an invitation to love.
