OGDEN – The 5th annual Golf with the Bishop fundraiser for Give Me a Chance will take place on June 12.
The event, which will maintain proper social distancing required because of the pandemic, was canceled last year because of COVID-19, but with the improved situation this year, the tournament will be held. It is one of two major annual fundraising events for GMAC, a ministry of the Daughters of Charity that teaches marketable skills to low-income women in the Ogden area, provides opportunities that lead to self-sufficiency, and also offers education opportunities to children.
“As you know, our fundraiser proceeds go directly to the programs for low-income women and children who are served at Give Me A Chance,” said Daughter of Charity Sister Martha Garcia, executive director of GMAC.
The nonprofit organization offers programs such as an after-school tutorial program for children, arts for spirituality for all ages, English as a Second Language, workplace skills for women and computer literacy, support groups and counseling for parents.
All of the programs, which are provided free of charge, are staffed by volunteers. The volunteer tutors include retired teachers and other professionals.
During the COVID-19 health crisis, the organization received donations that kept them afloat, but the fundraising events are still needed.
“On behalf of the women and children who benefit from your generosity, we thank you for all your support, and hope to see everyone at the golf tournament,” Sr. Martha said.
 The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 12, 6 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Schneiter’s Bluff Golf Course, 300 North 3500 West, West Point. $75/pp or $300/team. Registration at 6 a.m.; shotgun start at 7 a.m. RSVP to 801-627-2235 or at https://www.facebook.com/events/828935310992091
