November 1, 1947 ~ November 8, 2018

GeneAnn Carlino, OCDS, passed away November 8, 2018 after a protracted illness.  She was born on November 1, 1947, lived in La Mesa, California, and graduated from Helix High School in 1965.  A resident of Salt Lake City for many years, she was an RN who specialized in caring for sick infants. She was a devoted cradle Catholic, a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Holladay, where she discerned a vocation to Carmel and joined the Secular Carmelites (3rd Order) at the Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Monastery in Holladay.

She became president of the Secular Carmelites, leading her OCDS community there for multiple terms.  After her retirement, GeneAnn moved to Mt. Angel, Oregon.  She had a great love for the seminarians at Mt. Angel and was always praying for them.

A funeral Mass for GeneAnn recently was held at the Abbey of Mount Angel. It was the first funeral Mass ever offered there. She was buried in a little farming community just outside Mount Angel.

Over the years, GeneAnn influenced many Catholics, kindling in them the fire of Carmel and leading some to the Secular Carmelite Order.  She was a vibrant and beloved member of the OCDS community. GeneAnn will be deeply missed and fondly remembered in great gratitude. May she rest in peace.
