Dolores M. Rousseau of West Jordan passed away on September 10, 2021. She was born on June 19, 1928, to Philip and Juanita Maestas.

She grew up in Sante Fe, New Mexico with her younger brother Manuel Maestas. They were members of the San Juan Tesuque Tribe. She graduated from high school at St. Catherine’s Indian School. After graduating high school, she moved to Ohio, where she attended University of Cincinnati to begin studying social work. She got a better opportunity at Tulane University and moved to New Orleans to continue her education. From there she moved back to New Mexico, where she lived in Farmington, working as a social worker for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Shiprock, New Mexico on the Navajo reservation.

While living in Farmington she met her husband Dale Rousseau at Bowlero bowling lanes in 1964. They married that same year, and their only son Gregory Rousseau was born in April 1965.

In September 1980 they moved to Utah so that Dolores could get her master’s degree in social work at the University of Utah; she graduated from there in 1982. She then went on to work at the Catholic Community Services, where she helped families adopt children. She later moved on to volunteer at the Indian Walk-In Center to help the Indian community.

Dolores was a devout Catholic and her many interests included traveling around the country for the Tekawitha Circle Conferences and dancing with her husband Dale at the VFW and The American Legion. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially going to family reunions, being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved watching sports and cheering on the Broncos, Utes, Jazz and Notre Dame.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dale M. Rousseau; parents Philip and Juanita Maestas; and her brother Manuel Maestas. She is survived by her son Greg Rousseau; grandchildren Romie (Tiffanie) Rousseau, Autumn Rousseau (Isaac Adams); and her five beautiful great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.

A graveside service was held September 17 at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park, Bluffdale.
