PLEASANT VIEW — Deacon Bud Jennings Wardle, 90, died Nov. 4, 2006, in his sleep. Deacon Wardle, finished serving at the altar of God and began standing at the side of God. He died peacefully.

Deacon Wardle was born May 30, 1916, in Grant, Idaho, a son of William Bonus and Pearl Webster Wardle. He moved to Ogden in 1923 and graduated from Ogden High School in 1936. On May 22, 1940, he married Cecilia Marie Thinnes. She preceded him in death in 1982.

Deacon Wardle began working for the Bamberger Railroad in 1936 as a ticket agent. He moved to OUR & D Company as a clerk and retired from the Union Pacific in 1978. He served in the Army for two years during World War II.

He was ordained a Roman Catholic Deacon, one of the first permanent deacons in our diocese, Dec. 26, 1976. He served St. James Parish, where he was still active at the time of his death. He was the oldest active clergy member in the Diocese of Salt Lake City.

Deacon Wardle is survived by two sons, Robert (Jennifer) Wardle and Tim Wardle, both of Pleasant View; five grandchildren, Danielle (Noe’) Vazquez, Tiffany Wardle, Jonathan Wardle, Jordon Wardle, and Julie Wardle; one great-grandchild due in May; his brother deacons and his St. James Parish family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecilia; daughter, Sr. Stephanie Marie Wardle; and one grandchild, Erica.

A viewing was scheduled for Nov. 7, 2006, at 5 p.m. at St. James Church, 495 North Harrison Blvd. A rosary followed at 6:30 p.m. A funeral Mass was slated to follow at 7 p.m.

Interment was scheduled at 10 a.m. Nov. 8, in the Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden with military honors accorded by the VFW Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, Deacon Wardle requested donations to the St. James Building Fund.
