SALT LAKE CITY — "The Way of the Cross is a way in which Christians process to proclaim we are one in Christ," said Rev. Michael Imperiale, pastor of First Presbyterian Church.

The Salt Lake City Council of Churches sponsored the 24th annual Good Friday Procession of the Cross in Salt Lake City April 6. The procession began at the First Presbyterian Church on South Temple and traveled down 400 East to 400 South, over to 200 East ending at the Cathedral of the Madeleine on 300 East and South Temple.

At each station, the pilgrims were welcomed, a hymn was sung, and a scripture on Christ’s passion was read. People carried the cross to express their love for Jesus.

The sixth and final station was the Cathedral of the Madeleine where Bishop John Wester of the Diocese of Salt Lake City welcomed the procession of people. Father Joseph M. Mayo, rector of the Cathedral of the Madeleine, prayed the Prayer of Confession, and everyone shared in the sign of peace. A special collection was taken for the ministry at Crossroads Urban Center.
