On April 17 , Bishop Oscar A. Solis was the keynote speaker at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new warehouse addition of CCS of Northern Utah. Also present were Monsignor Colin F. Bircumshaw, vicar general; Msgr. J. Terrence Fitzgerald, vicar emeritus; Deacon George Reade, chancellor; as well as many community leaders, sponsors and benefactors of the project and community members.
In his opening remarks, Bishop Solis commended the staff and volunteers of Catholic Community Services, the Board of Directors, the donors and benefactors. In addition, he thanked “all those responsible for putting up this wonderful project that we have envisioned in the past years.”
The Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank “is the largest food bank in northern Utah and distributes more food than any other pantry in the state,” according to CCS. The new warehouse will allow the collection, storage and distribution of more food to children, families and individuals experiencing hunger in that part of the state.
With the food bank, “we are bridging the gap between the rich and the poor, those who have and those who have not. ... We are actually building a community,” Bishop Solis said.
