SALT LAKE CITY — The Blessed Sacrament Elementary and Middle School communities congratulate Bishop George Niederauer on his appointment as Archbishop of San Francisco.

Over the past 11 years, Bishop Niederauer has dedicated himself to serving all people in the Diocese of Salt Lake City. He has been an exemplary model of his motto, "To Serve and To Give." His selfless work has left its mark on all Catholic schools in the Diocese. We have come to know him through his presence at Confirmation ceremonies and through his attendance at parish functions. He has the gift of speaking in a manner that can be understood by everyone, both young and old alike. He is always eloquent and has quite a sense of humor.

Our fondest memory is from the summer of 2005 when our summer Extended Day Program took a field trip and toured the Cathedral of the Madeleine. After our tour, Bishop Niederauer took time and visited with the children. He pointed out several items in the Cathedral, asked questions of the children, and preceded to explain in detail the significance of his Coat of Arms.

Bishop Niederauer was extremely patient and showed genuine interest in all questions the children asked of him. It was a memorable field trip for both the children and adults present.

It has been a blessing to have Bishop Niederauer as the shepherd of our community. We send our prayers and best wishes as he continues "To Serve and To Give."
